Composite Deck Construction
Capped composite decking on framing built for composite spans, the low-maintenance deck that doesn't need staining every other summer.
Overview
Composite decking trades a higher upfront cost for years without sanding or staining. Modern capped boards resist fading, staining and mold far better than early composites, and hidden fasteners leave a clean surface with no screw heads.
Composite does need different framing from wood: tighter joist spacing, solid blocking and the expansion gaps manufacturers require. We frame to the manufacturer's installation guide so the warranty stays valid. We'll also be straight with you about heat: darker boards get hot in full Texas sun, so color choice matters.

Common questions
Does composite get hot?
It can. Darker colors in full sun get noticeably hotter than wood. Lighter colors, and shade from a pergola or cover, help a lot.
Will composite fade?
Capped composite resists fading far better than older boards, but all boards change slightly in their first months of sun.
Is composite slippery?
Most capped boards have a textured grain that grips well wet or dry.
Can composite go on my old deck frame?
Only if the framing is sound and spaced for composite. Many older frames need extra joists.
